That's the biggest reason why I didn't license my code under GPL in the first place: I didn't want to restrict people from using it in non-GPL works.

I know that's not the answer you want to hear, but I do have a solution for you. The code is not very complicated, so you could probably write your own equivalent using my code only as reference.

What I recommend for attribution is just a link back to this blog post. I personally find it helpful when going through someone's code (or even my own several months later) to see where the heck something came from.

Interesting. I tried to do some testing in PHP but my web server is not behaving itself. I switched to a piece of regular expression software and was able to get the expected result with the following pattern: ^[A-Z\s_]+$

I'm hesitant to update my original code without proper testing in PHP though.

I assume the PHP isAlpha() function is supposed to mirror the built-in is_numeric() function. However, it does not, because it allows numeric characters. For example take the string "234kol". The is_numeric() function will return FALSE because while the string does contain numbers, it also contains characters. However, your isAlpha() function will return TRUE, ignoring the fact that the string contains numbers. It is a subtle but important distinction.

I like your Roman Numeral library. I needed a function to test for Roman numerals, so I wrote this one:

There is a bug in the toDecimal function - try caling toDecimal("8A", 36) and get 0 back.

The issue is you do not convert a numeric digit to an Integer, so VBScript does a string comparison and "8" is greater than "36".

I suggest adding an else to the if not isnumeric:
else
digit = CInt(digit)
